Fellow blogger and good friend, Lea Ann fromMangos Chili & Z, has a new feature called “No Recipe Needed” where she features some no-fuss goodies. When I told her about this lemon pepper sauce, she encouraged me to steal her idea and share this yummy dip for artichokes. I had to do it.
For this dip, I use Boyajian Pure Lemon Oil, but you can use finely grated lemon zest as well. Not only is it SIMPLE, it’s delicious.
You’ll need . . .
- Artichokes – washed and trimmed
- A dollop of good mayonaise for each artichoke
- A few drops of Boyajian Pure Lemon Oil or finely grated lemon zest
- Freshly grated black pepper
- A little lemon juice if desired (makes a thinner sauce)
Steam artichokes for 45 minutes
While the artichokes steam, combine the mayo, lemon and peppper and mix well. Set aside to allow the flavors to blend.
Enjoy!

I don’t know how old I was before I even heard of an artichoke but I was well into adulthood. About the only ones I eat are the canned hearts and I love them, but I’ve never developed an appreciation for what can be done with the rest of the thing or with a fresh one. Having said all that, your dish looks perfect and I’m sure I’d give it a try.
Thanks, Larry. I use those canned ones for recipes, too, but the fresh ones are so festive.
If you decide to give them a try, there are lots of how-to videos out there on how to trim them up. Easy peasy and soooo good.
Lovely presentation as well!
Aww, thanks!
That Lea Ann – always having good ideas
This looks great – we haven’t had an artichoke this way in forever. BTW – have you ever tried Vegenaise instead of Mayo? It’s our preference…if you can find it there. It’s in the refrigerated section.
She does have some good ideas.
I will check and give it a try if I find it. I looked at the ingredients and it sounds like a healthy alternative to my beloved mayo.
We love artichokes and one each makes a meal for us. My gardener likes mayo to dip and I like butter
I have the Boyajian citrus oils in my shopping cart at Amazon. Waiting to order it in case I think of something else I might need – I know there must be something
64 degrees here today – just beautiful. We’ll be planting our garden in another 3-4 weeks – can’t wait!
It was a fabulous day here as well. I’ve got lots of early spring stuff up and growing in my covered garden box. I’m a gambler. I’m with you on an artichoke for a meal (but I like some chewy bread on the side). Now press “send” on that order! I’m anxious to hear what you think.
I have used those oils about 10 times and love them. This will be next on my list. Looks wonderful, sounds wonderful and since I know those oils, know it’s wonderful. Great photo Vickie….with all of those leaves arranged so perfectly. Beautiful. Thanks for the shout out, with the long hours at work, I’ve got about 10 of those “no recipe” posts in the que.
I’m anxious to read your “no recipe” posts . . . that’s how I love to cook on weeknights. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the oils. I just knew you’d love them, too. And thanks for the compliment on the picture. That was a fast shot before Dana even made it to the table.
mmmmmmmmm, I love the spring and this is why!
I’m with you! Here’s to spring!
This brings back memories of dining room table discussions about why they are called “heart-o-chokes”! I have always been partial to my Creamy Italian with these guys but I might have been bought out. Thanks for another great recipe mom!
LOl – fun memories! You always had the most interesting interpretations. My favorites were “Foodruckers” and “Searchin Merchandise.”
You have to try the lemon pepper mayo sauce, Aaron. It’s so good, it’s crazy. xo
I love artichokes steamed and plain, but have to admit-this looks better.
I’m flattered – I’ve seen enough to know you are quite the healthy eater. (this sauce is a total cheat and worth every delicious bite!)
This sounds so delicious! I can’t wait to try it! I’m going over to check out “No Recipe Needed” now! Thanks Vickie. Here’s to a wonderful week – cheers
Isn’t “No Recipe Needed” a great idea? She’s an amazing cook and blogger – enjoy! (and cheers to you, as well, Martha!)
LOVE artichokes. I’ve never used these oils but I am intrigued. I think Lea Ann’s on to something here. I love this contribution.
Hi, Karen! I think these oils are a great “ace up the sleeve” and have loved them for years. What the pure lemon oil does for mayo is amazing and so easy. Thanks for stopping by!
Just popping back in to say a big thank you for all your lovely comments today. You are always such a warm and gracious blog friend – in both your posts and your comments. I so admire you and would love to know in real life. You are one of the small group that always makes me remember what it is that I love about blogging (((big hugs)))
Aww! I laughed about bombarding you with comments today, but I trusted you’d understand. I’m finding it difficult to keep up with the all the blogs I’m interested in, so I tend to read several posts in one sitting. Your comments are always so uplifting and positive . . . you are in my special circle of blog buddies as well. Big hugs back to you, lady!
This is my favorite way of preparing artichokes, simple and so flavorful. I just bought a beautiful big bag of artichokes at Costco so am all set for a healthy lunch today.
Sounds like a fabulous lunch! Great to see you in my comments, Cathy!
Artichokes are awesome. I miss California for all the arties!
I gave you an award today! Hope you like it!
I hear you about California Artichokes – it’s crazy that you can grow them in your garden out there.
An award? I’ll have to check this out . .
I’m going to steal your citrus oils when you aren’t looking.
PS: What’s that over there? Look, right over there!
You’re going to have to be faster than that, Chris.
